Lynn’s Relay for Life Walk set for June 4 at Red Rock Park

The Lynn “Relay for Life Walk” will be held on June 4,5, 2010 at Red Rock Park. This annual community event includes over 33 returning teams, 75+ survivors and their families along with hundreds of friends, all walking for the fight against cancer.

Over 1000 people enjoy the “Relay by the Sea” each year which includes a ceremonial lap for survivors and their family caregivers. This year’s theme is “More Birthdays” and will include a Birthday Celebration for Survivors and their families sponsored by LHAND Director Charlie Gaeta and his team of volunteers. Also available will be Mini Facial and Foot Massages by Geri Cronin of “About Face”, Donna’s Dance Irish Step dancers, Music by Supertonic and DJ’s Rich Naugle and Dave Nordyke. There will be plenty of Team raffle tables. Luminary Bags are sold at the event for $ 10.00 each ($5.00 pre-sale from Team members).

The best part of the evening takes place at 9:00 pm when the lighting of all the luminary bags decorated and named “in memory” or “in honor of” friends and family takes place. Last year, over 2000 bags lined the ocean area and shone through the night while our Fire and Police Department Bagpipers Kevin Cronin and Ned Shinnick played. While the music echoes on shore, all team members, family, friends and survivors are asked to step out onto the track and walk in memory or in honor of their loved ones during this very moving ceremony.

This is a wonderful community event with the following Teams participating this year: Lynn City Hall, Lynn Police Department, Lynn Fire Department, AOH and LAOH Shamrocks, Tammy’s Troopers, Coughlin Crew, Mom’s Cancer Fighting Angels, Lynn Public Schools We Care Walkers, Lynn Housing Authority Team, Anna’s Angels, Team Fennah, Pickering School, Bare Tracks, Team Julie, Supertonic, Classical High All Stars, English High, Kidney Klan, Paws 4 a Cause, Lynn Walgreens, Larisa’s Bumble Beelievers, Team Spin, Operation Bootstrap, Hope Crusaders, Blurred Vision, Girl Power, Just wanna have fun Team, Girls Inc-Part of the Solution – Touchdown for a Cure and Homerun for a Cure, Team Pepsi and Team Grandpa.
