The St. Mary’s High School girls basketball team stayed red hot, winning the Walter J. Boverini Lynn City Tournament last week with victories over Lynn Classical (61-30) and Lynn English (66-48).

“Kirsten is a key for us at both ends of the floor,” said St. Mary’s head coach Jeff Newhall. “She’s really defending the other team’s best player and the basketball touches her hands on jut about every possession. She plays a critical role for us and I was glad to see her get recognized as the Most Valuable Player because she’s the total package and she played that way in the tournament.”

Senior center Tori Faieta was immense in the championship game, scoring 24 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, and blocking six shots. “We’re playing very good team basketball right now,” said Newhall. “As long as we stay balanced and have four or five people that can beat you on a given night, it’s very difficult to defend.”
