The Beauty and the Beast

This winter’s snow storms have transformed the city.

It has changed our habits, how we shop, where we expect to park, when we go out and who can come to visit.

For retailers on Lewis Street and in the downtown, the heavy snow of January has caused business to stall just a bit.

The snowy days themselves when literally no one is coming out for any reason are hard to take for businesspeople.

And there’s been at least three or four of those days during January.

Now comes February and the storms predicted for Tuesday and Wednesday.

By all appearances, this is going to be the mother of all winters.

January was a monster month for snow.

February is coming on strong and the month isn’t even a day old.

Parking is misery. Walking is made more difficult.

Whether you are a driver or a pedestrian, the situation is about to worsen.

The city will need to be vigilant in the snow removal department.

Businesses can’t afford another month like January.

And this city’s hundreds of side streets and highway must be public safety accessible and clear.

Mother Nature is showing her great strength.

All we can do is fight back by clearing the snow.

It doesn’t get much more complex than that.

All it is going to take is a great effort and a ton of money the city doesn’t have.
