The loss to Japan by the U.S. women’s soccer team over the weekend was really hard to take.

The US women were so, so good, and they seemed so destined for the World Cup, that it came as a terrible shock when they lost to the Japanese decisively following a series of penalty shots.

Many people believe penalty shots aren’t fair – but they are.

Everyone is at the same disadvantage when it comes to penalty shots.

When all was said and done, the US women lost fair and square.

It was disappointing. It was close. But the Japanese were better all around when everything was added and subtracted.
