The Patriots

By half time during the game Sunday, this city’s streets were a ghostland.

Virtually no one was out during the half-time festivities.

With the second half yet to come, there was hope that the Patriots could pull it off.

In the end, obviously, sadly, they couldn’t do it.

They couldn’t pull the trigger in order to take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

There is something especially disturbing about losing to the New York Giants.

After all, they play in New Jersey. The team is headquartered in New Jersey. They practice in New Jersey and they are paid with checks from a New Jersey corporation.

This was not the way it was supposed to be for the Patriots on Sunday.

Patriot’s fans everywhere to a person believed they were going to win that this was their year and that nothing could stop them now.

In the end, they came up short not by very much but short just the same.

A miss is as good as a mile in the National Football League and the Patriots missed.

What we all need to remember is that football, in the last analysis, is just a game.

The only thing the Patriots lost was the biggest game of the year.

Now we are left to wonder about next year and what that will bring.

Nothing lasts forever.

The Patriots will be lucky to do as well next year as this year.

That’s the way it goes in the NFL where nothing is ever certain, least of all Super Bowl victories.
