Alfons Szankowski

Served in Polish Army Under British Command During World War II; Worked on Preparing Parts for Apollo Space Program

Alfons Szankowski of Lynn died peacefully on Saturday, December 28 after a long fulfilled life surrounded by his loving family. He was 90 years old.

Born, raised and educated in Grudzien, Poland, he is survived by his wife Urszula (Maliszewski) Szankowski with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. He was a supervisor and Senior Machinist for the American Science and Engineering Company of Cambridge. Alfons was in charge of manufacturing parts for the Apollo Space Program. During World War II he served in the Polish Army under the British Command.

In addition to his wife, he survived by three adoring daughters: Marion G. and her husband, Dwight Bennett of Lynn, Jeannette E. and her husband, Frank Figari of Brandon, Florida and Karen Sindoni-Westhaver of Bradford. He was the beloved grandfather of nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a niece and nephew. Alfons was predeceased by a sister and brother.
