On May 25, at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Union at School streets in Lynn. Primary agency of jurisdiction is Lynn Police. The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section is assisting in reconstruction the crash. Preliminary investigation indicates that a moped had entered the intersection of Union and School when it was struck by an unknown vehicle, which fled the scene after the collision. After being struck, the moped burst into flames. The operator of the moped, Deontay Smith, 26, of Lynn, suffered serious burn and trauma injuries. He was transported to Salem Hospital and later transferred by medical helicopter to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. The investigation to locate the vehicle that struck him is ongoing.
