23-year old Lynn man charged with rape

A Lynn judge ordered a 23-year old Lynn man held without bail on Monday, following his arrest on a rape charge Sunday.

James Colombo of 47 Collins Street in Lynn, was also ordered to appear at a dangerousness hearing on Tuesday, July 14 according to Essex County District Attorney Spokesman Steven O’Connell.

According to the police report, the alleged victim reported to police that the rape occurred on Friday night, following the fireworks display. However, she did not report the crime until Sunday, after she returned from the hospital.

The alleged victim told police that Colombo popped the lock to enter the bedroom where she had been sleeping and that he had encouraged her to alcohol and then raped her.

50-year old Lynn resident charged with trying to entice a child

A Lynn judge released a 50-year old Lynn man on $2,000 cash bail and ordered him not to have contact with the alleged victim or any other unsupervised child, after he was arrested on a charge of trying to entice a child on June 24.

Jorge Mendez of 198 Williams St. Apt. 1, was arrested after the alleged victim, a young student at Thurgood Marshall Middle School, reported being approached by Mendez on her way to school.

According to the complaint against him, Mendez tried to lure the victim into having relations with him for $6. The victim then resisted several sexual advances by Mendez while walking to school, according to the report filed by the school’s resource officer. Police were able to identify Mendez after they drove the alleged victim back by Mendez’s home and she identified Mendez as soon as he walked by.

Mendez was ordered to appear back in court on August 24 for a pre-trial hearing.
