Derek Dana, coach of the Division 3 state champion St. Mary’s High School baseball team, held the first Spartan Baseball Camp at Breed Field. Players learned the fundamentals and techniques of baseball and participated in drills and contests. Dana played high school baseball at St. Mary’s, helping to lead the Spartans to back-to-back state championships. He continued his baseball career in the Division 1 University of Massachusetts/Amherst program. He was selected in the Major League Baseball drafted and played professionally in the San Francisco Giants organization. A large turnout of aspiring baseball players enjoyed a fun-filled and educational week of camp under the direction of Dana and his staff, including former Classical softball coach Chris Warren, Matt Costanza of the St. Mary’s baseball team, former St. Mary’s player Victor Molle, and Lynnfield High baseball player Bryant Dana.0
