Lynn resident Jordan Edgett was situated in a position of authority inside the press box at Cronin Stadium for the Everett-St. John’s Prep MIAA football playoff game last Saturday.

While the No. 1-seeded Prep football team was trying to its job on the field (eventually dropping a tough 12-7 decision to Everett), Jordan Edgett was performing in his role as assistant director of athletics at St. John’s Prep.

The 25-year-old son of Alan and Diane Edgett and the grandson of David and Maryjane Solimine, Jordan began in his position at the Prep in July. Prior to joining athletic director Jim O’Leary’s administrative team, Edgett worked in player development and scouting for the Baltimore Orioles professional baseball organization.

Edgett  is a 2008 graduate graduated of St. John’s Prep where he played baseball and basketball. He continued his baseball career at Bowdoin College. He is pursuing a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Endicott College.

Edgett is involved in scheduling, game management, transportation and other administrative responsibilities for the Prep’s highly successful athletic program that consists of 21 varsity teams and several other teams encompassing grades 7-12.

“Most students at the Prep participate in at least one sport,” said Edgett.

He’s learning a lot from O’Leary, the long-time Prep AD and former head football coach.

“Mr. O’Leary has been great so far,” said Edgett. “He’s easy to work for. He works hard. He’s knowledgeable and helpful. [Assistant AD] Jameson Pelkey has been great to me as well. They’ve made the transition easy for me from the start.”

Edgett is hoping to contribute to the Prep’s outstanding sports tradition. Its golf team just won the Division 1 state title.

“I’m happy where I am right now in my career and I’m excited for the future at the Prep,” said Edgett.

Asked about his grandfather, David Solimine Sr., a well-known community leader and philanthropist, Jordan replied, “Everything that he’s taught me throughout these years, I want to be the man he is now. I’ve looked up to him since I’ve been born. He’s a great idol, a great person to have in the family. He’s been awesome.”
